FAQ
-
Should I come ready to get in the sauna?
Yes, we recommend you come with your swimmers on under a robe or your clothes. We do have a toilet on site you are able to use if necessary but we recommend coming ready to go!
Please note all our experiences include time for changing. If you would like to use the changing towards the end of your session, please be mindful of the next booking.
-
What should I bring with me?
You will need swimwear, a water bottle and two towels; one to sit on in the sauna and one to dry off with. Wooly hats are great for when you are in the cold water plunge and warm clothes for after your session are recommended.
-
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your booked sauna slot to allow time for briefing and the walk through the fields to the sauna.
Please note in colder months it is important to wear suitable footwear. Wellies, walking boots or trainers you don't mind getting a bit wet.
-
Who can use the sauna?
Anyone under the age of 18 using the sauna must be accompanied by an adult.
All persons using the Sauna do so at their own risk.
If you have any reservations about using the sauna, such as medical conditions, underlying health problems (including low, high or irregular blood pressure, heart/cardiac issues), the use of prescription drugs and/or pregnancy, it is essential that you consult your doctor before making a booking or using the sauna. If in any doubt, you should not use the sauna.
There are many health benefits to using the sauna when used correctly. Arrive well hydrated, drink plenty of water during your session & take frequent breaks.
-
How do the 50 minute sessions work?
Our sessions are all 50 minutes to give you the opportunity to gain the full health benefits of a sauna session.
To maximise your time, please arrive wearing your swimwear. We do not currently have changing facilities.
For someone using saunas on a weekly basis the recommendation is to spend 10-15 minutes in the sauna, then take a break to cool down, either with a quick dip in cold water or taking a seat and cooling off. Then repeat!
Important note: Those using saunas less often than weekly should consider spending less time in the sauna (i.e 5-10mins) in each round. It usually takes longer to cool down in air (depending on outside temperature & wind) than water, so please bear this in mind when taking breaks to ensure you take a long enough break before going back to the sauna.

What facilities do you have?
At The Sauna at the Cottage you should expect a fully outdoor immersive experience.
We do not have conventional showers but provide you with plenty of fresh water to rinse your body during & after your sauna session. There is a toilet nearby you are able to use.
